Marines?

Mission: Prologue: The Third
Location: USS Nomad, Officer's Quarters
Timeline: 30 Days Prior to Mission

"Kal, you in here?" Heather called, as she entered the shared quarters of the CO and XO aboard the Wallace Class USS Nomad. Heather had been the Commanding Officer for approximately a year now and she and the executive officer had gotten to know each other decently well between work and the fact they shared quarters.

"We got our official orders for the mission, sort of," she said, sounding a bit miffed.

"The hell does 'sort of' mean?" Kalvin asked, stepping out of his room in a pair of sweatpants and nothing else. In his hand was a towel as he'd been about to grab a shower after his workout. "Who pissed in your cereal anyway? You look somewhere between annoyed and pissed."

"Well turns out we aren't going to have homeport shifted to Starbase 611 like we thought," she said. "We're going to the Delta Quadrant. We've been attached to a Marine Expeditionary Unit operating under Task Force 38."

"We're going to the Delta?" He asked as he threw the towel over his shoulder, crossing his arms across his chest and leaning against the doorframe to his room. "Way I hear it that's only accessible for about 10 or 15 minutes a month."

"Yeah, there's some reading on the subject... I'm more interested in the fact we'll be taking our operational orders from a marine colonel."

"Bird or pip, it's all the same to us." He shrugged. "Don't sweat it, Heather. We're a Wallace class, our duties are fairly limited. We're probably just gonna be hauling supplies from one forward base to another and making sure the Marines get to their leave sites."

"Well, I guess we'll find out when I get a chance to meet him," she said. "It says I'm supposed to report to him in Cargo Bay 44?" she said like the location was a joke. "I even have my own office."

"I'll be right here if you need me." He said motioning around their quarters with a smirk. "I've got my office here."

"I was thinking about having you come with me," she said, honestly. "I have a feeling that he won't take me seriously."

"If he's not gonna take a Lieutenant seriously, why the hell would he listen to a Warrant Two like me? You're the equivalent of one of his company commanders." Kalvin scoffed. "I'm just a Warrant dear, remember? That gray polymorphous rank that no one is sure what we do or where we belong."

"You're a Chief Warrant Officer," she said. "And everyone knows that you have experience."

"Experience comes in many forms." He said with a sigh as he pushed off from the wall. "So, lemme grab my shower and I'll go put us on course for these Marines. At least it'll be new territory to see. I admit I am getting bored with the supply runs around here."

"I'm sure they're more fun than playing limo for the colonel," she said. "I already adjusted course... I'll go fill in the rest of the senior staff you take your shower."

"Won't take but a few minutes. What's planned for afterward?" He asked as he headed towards their shared bathroom.

"Well there isn't much to say so I thought I'd just grab them one on one. Why don't you meet me in the lounge we can play a game or something."

"Sounds good, just not that damn card game you introduced me to." He said, pausing at the door to the bathroom. "I'm not losing my credits to the boss again."

"Good thing I don't gamble," she said, in rebuttal before heading out.
